Online application window opens December 18

During its Dec. 16 public meeting, Delaware County Council unanimously voted to authorize CARES Act funding to further assist Delaware County businesses that have suffered loss from business interruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fourth round of funding, Delco Strong: Rapid Response is modeled after the Delco Strong, Delco Strong 2, and Delco Strong 3 grant programs offered in May, July, and November which distributed over $16 million to 1,428 local businesses and 130 local non-profit organizations. Delco Strong: Rapid Response will offer funding to Delaware County businesses directly affected by the Governor’s recent updated mitigation efforts which are in effect from December 12-January 4. The new mitigation efforts prohibit indoor dining, limit indoor and outdoor gatherings, and prohibit entertainment venues and gyms and fitness centers from operating.

“Our restaurants, bars, catering businesses, and gyms and fitness centers are suffering tremendously, and the latest mitigation efforts, while necessary in response to the dramatic increase of COVID-19 cases will hurt them even more,” said Delaware County Councilwoman Elaine Schaefer. “Delco Strong: Rapid Response allows us to continue to support these specific businesses even further. We know this has been crippling to many businesses and we are doing everything we can to help them get back on their feet and help them stay open and keep their staff employed.”

Council’s vote authorizes $ 4 million in additional Delco Strong grants to be distributed to eligible small businesses. Business owners can apply online beginning on December 18.

Delco Strong: Rapid Response provides a sliding scale of assistance to the Full-Service Restaurant/Tavern/Catering industry based on 2019 gross revenue and for those that have modified operations to remain open at a limited capacity during the three-week mitigation. Businesses are eligible for up to $40,000.

Delaware County Council and the Department of Human Services will host an online presentation on Thursday, Dec. 17 at 2:30pm.

The presentation will highlight some resources available to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Saturday, December 12th, in conjunction with Delaware County Community Transit, Eddystone Borough was able to distribute boxes of groceries to those in our community in need. If you or anyone you know is in need of food assistance please reach out. Please also sign up for our code red alerts so that you can stay up to date on important borough announcements, including when food will be distributed.

Over the past few weeks, borough manager Dawn Jones, Police Chief Ed Mokshefsky, Councilman Rob Yannuzzi and GSU President Karen Barnes have formed a partnership between the borough and the non profit Grands Stepping Up to help take up operations with the Eddystone pantry. 

Eddystone Borough would like to congratulate Officer Pugh on his swearing in as a full-time police officer in our borough. Officer Pugh served as a part time officer previously.

Santa Claus greeted children during Eddystone Borough’s Drive-Through Toy Giveaway at Lighthouse Hall of Saturday, December 12th.

The St. James Alumni Association held its Christmas Toy and Clothing Drive on December 9th and 10th as a way to help those less fortunate who are impacted, physically and financially, by the current situation. Active since 1940, the association is currently led by President Michael “Mike” Ritz, Vice Presidents Jim Connor and Lou Robinson, Treasurer Jim Robinson, and Secretary Scott McNeill.

Santa will be waving to all the residents of Eddystone this Saturday, December 12th, at 10:00 am!

Santa will still be doing his TOY GIVEAWAY from noon til 1 pm at Lighthouse Hall! This is a drive-by only toy giveaway! Toys will be for children in 5th grade and younger (up to ages 11/12). 

Everyone MUST wear their masks, so Santa does not get sick!!!  Please be responsible!

We must protect Santa so we can still have Christmas!

Due to COVID-19, the borough’s annual senior luncheon will not be in person this year. Instead, we would like to provide the luncheon meals via delivery to each senior’s front door sometime around 12 noon on Saturday, December 5. We will be masked-up and sanitized to ensure the safety of our neighbors.

Meal Includes: Chicken parmesan, a side of spaghetti, a side salad, and a roll and butter.

Please do your part in signing up your neighbors so that we can get every senior a meal! In addition, please be sure to ask your neighbor if they would like a meal delivered, and make sure that no one else has already signed them up. This will make it easier to count the number of meals we will need.

This form must be brought back to borough hall by Monday, November 30th, 2020. Place in the mailbox or call for assistance, and please call so we are expecting the forms!

As Thanksgiving and the holiday season approaches, many people look forward to spending time with family and friends. This year looks much different due to the COVID-19 pandemic and residents are strongly urged to reconsider traditional holiday plans.

COVID-19 cases in Delaware County have been rising and the county has now exceeded the highest number of outbreaks since the height of the pandemic. At the height of the pandemic, there were 232 cases a day in Delaware County. On Nov. 18, Delaware County reported 287 cases, bringing the total of positive cases in Delaware County to 17,184. There have been 836 COVID-19 related deaths in the county.

Public health investigators are linking a majority of cases in Delaware County to social gatherings and are strongly urging people to not host gatherings this holiday season. The safest way to celebrate the holidays this year is to celebrate virtually or with just the people in your household.

“While it’s extremely difficult to not gather with the ones we love this year, it’s necessary if we want to mitigate the spread of the virus and protect our loved ones and the community,” said Delaware County Council Chairman Brian Zidek. “It’s a small price to pay now in order to protect our community and schools and businesses who may be forced to shut down if our numbers continue to rise.”

The Chester County Health Department has issued Holiday Guidance during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Holiday Guidance:

• Limit in-person holiday gatherings to only people you live with or limit to a small group of individuals with whom you are regularly in contact.
• Keep visits short – gatherings that last longer pose more risk than short gatherings.
• Host a virtual holiday dinner with extended family or friends, especially if they are at higher risk for illness from COVID-19.
• Prepare traditional family recipes for family and neighbors and deliver them in a way that doesn’t involve contact with others.
