Winter Storm Emergency Message

Snow Emergency

A Message from Mayor Ronald Hughes and Emergency Management Coordinator, Chief Mokshefsky

Given our impending storm, we encourage all Eddystone residents and businesses to be as prepared as possible. This is expected to be a significant winter storm with heavy snow and potential icy conditions, with prolonged cold temperatures.

We want all our residents and businesses to be safe during this upcoming snowstorm. Some helpful suggestions for managing the storm include:

  • Have shovels, salt/calcium, and vehicle scraper ready
  • Make sure you have flashlights, portable radio, batteries, charge your phones and portable charges, and have your emergency supplies ready (a three-day supply of food, water, medications, pet food, etc is recommended).
  • Please allow our plows to work safely and effectively. Stay off the roads as much as possible. Keep your car as close to the curb as possible too so plows have the most room possible. If you have a driveway, please move your vehicles off the street and into your driveway.
  • Monday’s Trash Collection will NOT take place and will take place on Tuesday; please do not place trash out for collection until the evening, after streets have been plowed.
  • DO NOT shovel snow back into the street, please throw in your yard.
  • Please shovel out fire hydrants out front of your home
  • No saving parking spaces, please.
  • Sheltering in place if needed
  • Secure all loose items outside
  • Do not leave pets outside for extended periods of time
  • Look out for your neighbors, especially the elderly or those with mobility issues, to ensure they are safe.
  • We DO NOT recommend using kerosene heaters inside your home

The Eddystone Public Works / Highway Team are prepared and ready for the storm. The borough has over 50 tons of salt on hand to help with the freezing temperatures over the next week.

Please understand that this storm may be long, and the emergency management and highway department teams are committed to providing essential services at our time of need.
