Statement from Eddystone Borough on Crozer Health Closure

Crozer Health

The closing of Prospect Medical Holdings in Delaware County, while presenting significant challenges, also underscores the resilience of our community. Crozer Health’s closure, including Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital, will severely impact access to healthcare services in Delaware County. Residents will travel longer to the nearest hospital, which can be particularly challenging in emergencies.

The shutdown will lead to job losses for healthcare workers and other staff members employed at these facilities. This can have a ripple effect on the local economy, affecting businesses that rely on the patronage of hospital employees and patients.

The closure will exacerbate healthcare challenges for the county’s residents, especially those in underserved areas. Limited access to primary care physicians and emergency services will make it harder for people to receive timely medical attention.

Delaware County, Eddystone Borough, and other municipalities have taken proactive steps by issuing emergency declarations to address the community’s immediate needs and ensure continued support during this transition. This includes hiring additional staff, procuring necessary resources, and managing emergency medical services.

The Eddystone Borough Council, Mayor, and Borough Manager have been diligently working behind the scenes with the Fire Department, Police Department, and county officials. Their goal is to establish a robust mitigation strategy that will effectively serve the residents of Eddystone during this challenging time.

Eddystone Borough has partnered with the Eddystone Fire Department to provide a Basic Life Support ambulance and a professionally staffed QRS (Quick Response Service) unit 24/7. The officers of the Eddystone Police Department are trained in First Aid, and some are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians. The borough will also start a civic training class for CPR, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed.

Delaware County has created a dedicated webpage, https://delcopa.gov/health/pages/prospectmedicalbankruptcyupdate.html, to keep residents updated on the status of Prospect-owned hospitals, Prospect’s bankruptcy, and to provide information about the additional resources available to them. This is a testament to our commitment to supporting our community during this challenging time.

Residents are encouraged to use the Delaware County Health Department Wellness Line at (484)-276-2100. Prospect has established a dedicated call center for patient and care-related inquiries.

Residents and families can contact the center at (888) 801-2338 or email CrozerPAInquiries@omniagnt.com for information regarding patient transfers, medical records, and next steps.
